Just Ask

When communicating God's message of hope, we need to be sensitive. We need to be full of grace but we need to be gentle and respectful. We need to invest and invite. Ten tips for being contagious Christians: pray, relax and have fun, be ourselves, be real/genuine, build authentic friendships, love people, don't be afraid to bring God into our conversations, don't feel like we have to unload both barrels, make sure we are growing in our own spiritual life, learn to ask questions.

Fulfilling Our Destiny

In Acts 1:8 we learn about 4 different spheres of influence we have to share God's message of love and eternal life - those in our immediate circle of influence; those in our extended area of influence; those who are a little different than us; and those who live in other cultures.

Design

God's design for all of us to be a part of the unstoppable movement..the church. We need to refuse to get puffed up with pride; recognize this is bigger than me; invest our abilities in God's unstoppable movement. We need to give ourselves fully to God. We have all been given a certain amount of faith to serve God through the church in order to build the kingdom. There are exponential benefits to serving God through the church.

Influence

God can be an influence not only in us but through us. As Christians, our battle is to live a life of conviction. God is looking for individuals who refuse to cmpromise their standards. We need to live by Godly standards. By doing so, we aren't losing our freedom, we're protecting it. We need to develop and be able to communicate our personal standards. Becoming a person of influence starts inside of us. We need to nail down our standards and stick to them. In doing so, we prepare ourselves to know ahead of time how we will react when it comes to temptations.

We should live a life of thankfulness and gratitude. In order for us to become great at gratitude, we need to work on our perspective, we need to guard our hearts from negativity and fill it up with gratitude, and we need to practice gratitude.
His Ongoing Plan

The BIG Story is all about redemption. God invites us to be a part of the Big Story just as he did Adam and Eve, Abraham, David, Moses, etc. The church is God's redemptive enterprise. The church is the closest we will get to the presence of God here on earth. What are we supposed to be doing? We should be leveraging our influence with unbelievers and tapping into the presence of God. That is the Great Commission. We've got to move closer to God in intimacy, move closer to each other, and move closer to the unbelieving/disconnected. When Jesus left this earth, he left the church to carry on.

The Ultimate Payment

Jesus' death on the cross was the ultimate payment for our sins. He voluntarily laid down His life for us. He came to the earth to redeem us. Sin is a very, very serious thing. Jesus is the way to God; Jesus is the real thing; Jesus is the source of life. We need to stop running away from God and start running towards God and with God.

Redefining Hope

We need to repent and turn back to God. We need to lay down our pride, arrogance, and stubbornness and choose God's way instead of our way. Unlike the last King of Judah, Zedekiah, we need to choose God's way over our way, we need to choose humility over pride, and we need to choose to surrender over our stubbornness. God disciplines us not to pay us back, but to win us back.

God's Patience

Throughout time, God has shown us patience even through our continued disobedience. We keep repeating the cycle of sin. The repeated cycle is our disobedience (sin), then we suffer pain and consequences, then we cry out to God, God saves us. In order for us to break the cycle of sin, we need to trust God, not test God. We need to stop the disobedience and we need to give God the credit.

Faithful

God is faithful and we need to trust God even when we don't understand. In God's desire to connect with us, he demonstrates His power, his mercy and grace, and his care and protection.. There is absolutely nothing beyond God's control and he wants us to connect with him and trust him. Those who are Christians accept God's acceptance and trust God. Christians understand that our acceptance of God is not earned by what we do. Those that are considering Christianity need to place all their faith and trust in what Jesus did on the cross as the payment for their sins.

Beginnings

Sin entered the BIG story when Adam and Eve made what seemed a very Insignificant wrong choice with choosing to eat an apple from the tree of knowledge even though God told them not to. That one little insignificant wrong choice led to very significant consequences for all eternity. To understand the BIG story, we need to connect the dots between sin and consequence, stop making excuses for our sin, and take hold of God's offer of another chance.

What Has God Been Up To?

God didn't give up after creation. The BIG story is all about redemption. The bible is the script for the BIG story. There is a God who loves me passionately and wants to connect with me. God has gone through immense lengths to connect with us. The big story is broken down with the following and what they represent: age of the beginnings with Adam and Eve-potential; age of the patriarchs with Abraham-promise; age of liberation with Moses-passover; age of the judges with the judges being about patience; age of the united kingdom with David and his passion for God; age of the divided kingdoms with kings and prophets and how they rebelled against God because of their pride; age of Jesus' incarnation with Jesus being the payment for our sins and what the message of redemption is all about; and the age of the church which is the church and how having the presence of God in our life empowers us to live our life for him.

Monitoring My Negativity

In order to monitor my negativity, we should do everything without complaining or arguing. Our words are really only a symptom of a very deep and real problem in our heart. A negative heart results in negative words, which leads to negative actions which result in a miserable life. We should promise that we will not hang out with negative people. We should speak only life into others, that which builds others up. We should be thankful for what we have.

A Different Angle

The preeiminent question we should be asking is "Who are you, Lord?" Once we get clarity on who Jesus really is, the other doubts/questions we have don't really matter. We don't really need all of our questions/doubts answered in order to embrace Christianity. We shouldn't give up on ourself, because God doesn't give up on us.
The Personal Dimension

Christianity isn't about our knowledge of Christ or the bible. It's about a personal relationship with the living God. Our doubts often shrink because of something very personal that God does in our life. When our doubts become smaller, God becomes more real. All of our doubts don't have to be resolved in order for us to connect with God. Our heavenly Father wants us to know him more than He wants us to know all the answers.

Facing Divorce

What the bible says about divorce. God's plan for marriage is one man and one woman in a unique, intertwining "one-flesh". God hates divorce because it hurts people. If we have God in the center of our marriage, as we grow closer to each other, we also grow closer to God.

As we look at the book of Job, we can see how God can help us live through the difficult losses we will endure in our lives.
Significant Relationships

God uses human relationships to grow us closer to Himself. Relationships are powerful things; relationships intersect with our faith for good or for bad; being aware of the significance of relationships allows us to leverage our relationships. While God orchestrates strategic relationships, we have a part. We need to be intentional about putting ourselves in environments where God has the potential to provide us with strategic relationships and we must make ourselves available to be used relationally by God.

New Perspective

One of the six things God uses to grow our faith is through God-honoring financial management. We cannot serve both God and money. Pastor Paul explained the 10-10-80 plan. First 10% of our income should be our tithe, the next 10% is what we should save, and the remaining 80% is what we use to live on. Our tithe is what is actually given to the church (storehouse) and doesn't include other gifts given to other good causes. We should stay away from debt, we should be consistent with our saving, and we should put something aside to help others.

Purposeful Spiritual Habits

In order to grow in our faith, we must have spiritual disciplines in our lives. The six things God uses to grow our faith are practical biblical teaching, purposeful spiritual habits, god-honoring financial management, personal ministry, significant relationships, and defining experiences. This message is on the discipline of scripture meditation. We need to push ourself to reflect on scripture on a consistent basis and and need to push ourself to apply scripture consistently. As we meditate on scripture, we need to ask ourself, "is there an attitude, behavior, or relationship I need to changed based on this scripture?"

Life Changing Truths

It is critical that we put God's truths into action. We must move beyond accumulating information and knowledge about God and do what he says..to do it. Obedience is what makes the difference. In order for us to do what God says, we must have purposeful spiritual habits, God-honoring financial management, serve in a personal ministry, have significant relationships, have practical biblical teaching and use our defining experiences in life to move us closer to God.

God is honored by big faith. Big faith paves the way for great intimacy with God.
Maintaining the Spirit of Christmas

Now that Christmas is over, how do we follow Jesus now? We should go to sleep with Jesus on our mind, we should wake up with Jesus, get ready for our day with Jesus, work throughout the day with Jesus and face interruptions with Jesus. In waking up with Jesus we need to acknowledge our dependence on God, tell God about our concerns for the day, and renew our invitation for God to spend the day with me.

Some people don't embrace Christianity because they received a poor explanation of Christianity and have viewed improper application of how Christianity is lived out. We can't receive it through our performance or our good deeds.
