In A Pinch?

What God has to say in regards to difficult situations. We need to remember who is in charge and that the one who is in charge is not an unfeeling, disconnected God. The same God who made all we have ever seen and even things we haven't seen is the God who wnats to have a lasting relationship with us. See, there may be turbulence on the plane, but our father is the one flying it.

The True Meaning of Christmas

Sermon Notes
The True Meaning of Christmas
Matthew 2:1-20
November 25, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
How did the Christmas Holiday come about?
What is the “True meaning of Christmas?”
The Hollywood version?
Peace, joy, love?
Is Christmas really about “Peace on Earth?”
Christmas is all about a new leader, a new government.
Herod knew this. Matthew 2:16-18
The Magi knew this. Matthew 2:1-2
The prophets knew this. Isaiah 9:6-7, Micah 5:2
Jesus knew this. Matthew 4:12-17
The true meaning of Christmas?
There’s a war and Jesus will win it. Matthew 10:34-39
Peace with God, not among men.
Christmas is encouragement.
To continue the battle…
…with the certainty of victory.

An Attitude of Gratitude

Sermon Notes
An Attitude of Gratitude
Psalm 92
November 18, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke

Some thoughts from a Puritan Evangelist during the 1600s.

Twelve reasons to be thankful.

Six things to remember about Thanksgiving:

1. Gratitude feels good
2. Keep giving thanks until you feel thankful
3. Watch out for things that make you ungrateful
4. Resist depression
5. Beware of unthankful doctrines
6. Don’t be satisfied with just saying “Thank you” to God

Counting Blessings or Burdens?

Sermon Notes
Getting Ready for Thanksgiving
“Counting Burdens or Blessings”
November 11, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
The Psalms teach us patterns of life.
1. Getting into a pit -- and out again. What’s it like? Horrible, violent,
painful, dark. Mire & mud. Jeremiah 38:6. Something like
a violent storm.
2. David Cried Out to the Lord. Verse 2.
David cried a lot. Psalm 6:6. Psalm 56:8. Make sure the cry is
to God, not men. 2 Chronicles 16:12.Psalm 118:8-9.
3. Wait on the Lord. Verse 1. Those who wait are humble --
Psalm 37:9 & 11. Hopeful -- Psalm 39:7, Psalm 130:5.
Hungry -- Psalm 42:1-2
4. Then comes deliverance. Verse 2. Was the problem disease?
Psalm 30:2. Or enemies? Psalm 69. Or sin? Psalm 51.
5. A New Song. Verse 3.
6. Others see and are saved. Verse 3.

The Gospel Begins With Go

Sermon Notes
The Gospel Begins With Go
John 3:16
October 28, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
All over the world, there are unloved, lost people.
Tens of thousands of them live nearby.
The early church loved – each other and everyone else.
Our culture isn’t loving.
Love gives evidence. So does lack of love
Love is a leap of faith.
You take risks. You make plans.
The Bible describes love – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love keeps no record of wrongs.
We are to love everyone.
Can we feel love from a God we fear? – Exodus 20:18-19
Creation is evidence
Jesus is the greatest evidence
Father and Son were close – John 1:18, 17:11
God loved us enough to go.
Do we love others enough to go?

Living Above the Circumstances

Sermon Notes
Living Above The Circumstances
Philippians 4:10-14
October 21, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
Living under, over or through circumstances?
Response to bad circumstances
- Paul’s support had fallen off – V-10
- How do most people respond?
Bitterness – Luke 10:38-42
Heaviness – Psalm 102
Selfishness – 1 Kings 19:10
What is the correct response?
- Contentment – Verse 11
- We learn contentment when we learn our faith, receive it and live it.
- Rely on God – 1 Thessalonians 5:23
- Be still – Psalm 46:10
- Be confident – V-13
- No need to be confident about everything…just whatever comes
your way!
Our God loves us and is in control – even of our circumstances!

What Jesus Means to Everything

Sermon Notes
What Jesus Means to Everything
October 14, 2007
Philippians 4:1-7
Rev. John Schmidtke

The answer to everything is to rejoice! V.4
	Always. About everything.
	"In The Lord" V.1

Argument between two women
Settle their differences in the Lord.
Help them reconcile in the Lord.

Philippi had an argument. We have gossip.
	Gossip that tries to understand.
	Gossip that tries to ruin.
	God hates gossip. Proverbs 6:16-19
What should we do? Help! V.3
 Confront not condemn.
 Recognize gossip, not react.
 Pray for those who gossip.
 Discover the truth.
 Memorize Philippians 4:8.

How to rejoice V.10-13
	Do what you can.
Ask God to do what only He can.
	Be gentle to all V.5.
This is the path to joy

October 7, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
Dual citizenship – Heaven and earth
"Eat, Drink and be Merry?" – Self Indulgence
Grab what you can? -- Materialism
A strong personal example
The Apostle Paul’s courage and commitment
Taken possession by God’s love
Looking backward – Verse 12
Don’t dwell on either victories or defeats
Forget the past to serve Christ
The need to forgive yourself
Looking up – Verse 14
Up is where the call comes from
Up is where the call takes you
Looking inward – Verse 12
Too heavenly-minded to be any earthly good?
We must grow into unity – Ephesians 4:11-13
A lifelong challenge to grow – Verse 15
Looking forward – Verse 14
Pursue Christ relentlessly
Strain forward to reach Him – Verse 13

Really Knowing Christ

Sermon Notes
“Really Knowing Christ”
Philippians 3:8-11
September 30, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
Keep your testimony current.
How hungry are you to know the Lord better?
To Know Christ the Person.
What a great name to drop!
Religion isn’t the answer.
Want to know His suffering & death?
Public vs. private knowledge.
How do you get to know Christ better?
Spend more time with Him (Bible Study).
Talk with Him (Prayer).
Trust in Him (Faith).
How do you get to know Christ’s power?
Regularly consult God’s Word.
God’s encouragement, God’s rebuke.
How do you get to know Christ’s passion?
Are you willing to sacrifice?
We must know suffering.
We will know rejection.
If you are born again, grow up!

Christian Reality

Sermon Notes
Christian Reality
Philippians 3:1-7
September 23, 2007
Rev. John Schmidtke
Circumcision (Physical vs. Spiritual)
What is Christian Reality?
1. Joy – Philippians 3:1, Nehemiah 8:10
Illness or circumstances can rob us of joy
Are you submitted to the Lordship of Christ?
Do you really enjoy God’s love?
2. Danger – Philippians 3:2
Dogs, evil men, butchers
3. Different – Philippians 3:3
Worship in the spirit
The spiritual aspect makes worship real
Reality varies with each person
How excited are we about Jesus?
4. Self-distrust – Philippians 3:3
Religious heritage can get in the way
Confidence, enthusiasm, commitment?
5. The key to reality is to find Christ.

There is Joy in Serving Jesus

Sermon Notes
There is Joy in Serving Jesus
Philippians 2:17-30
Rev. John Schmidtke
September 16, 2007
1. Living above your circumstances
- Being a libation (poured out)
- Joy opposed to happiness
- Willing to sacrifice – Romans 12:1
2. The elements of Christian Service
- Delight
- Design
- Dependence
For the present and near future
On God…and on each other – Verse 19
- Discipline – Verse 22
- Disappointments
God requires our obedient action
Leaders must be servants, too.
Doing just enough…isn’t enough
3. There is joy in serving Jesus!
