Stewarding the Story in Service

This sermon is 3rd in a series on the way we steward the story of the gospel in our lives.

Stewarding the Story starts in our souls, transforms our hearts in silence and then works out in our service. That is, in doing good deeds that adorn the gospel, making Jesus appear to be a gracious savior.

The Hand of the Lord

I preached this sermon with my friends at Taft Avenue Community Church in Orange, CA during their missions conference.

This passage from Acts encouraged them pray that the hand of the Lord would use their ordinary lives to make their churches, in their community, a center for the Gospel mission as he did in the church in Antioch.

Because Unfaithfulness Stinks

The preeminent obstacle to faithfulness to God in all things is my faithfulness to myself above all things. In this passage, Jesus aggressively attacks the Pharisees because they love themselves more than they love God. That is clearly seen in their unfaithfulness with their money, in their unfaithfulness to God’s Word and in the justification of unfaithfulness in marriage. Unfaithfulness is a stench in the nostrils of God.

Squandering God

Jesus warns us not to squander his gracious presence by valuing his good gifts more than we value being with him. He tells this shocking parable of the unrighteous manager to call us to act faithfully to him in the way we use the wealth he gave us. What if we were better stewards? What if we lived beyond ourselves? What if we refused to squander God?

Being Formed by Prayer

I hope you enjoy this conversation with Dave Dussault (elder at CEFC) on how prayer forms us spiritually. We meander around some simple pragmatics of praying in our hurried world and camp on the glorious treasure of speaking with the Father in the name of the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What Binds You?

Jesus miraculously frees a woman bound by sickness despite the angry and hypocritical opposition of a synagogue official. In loosening her bonds he demonstrates himself to be the glorious one and ensures that there will be a reckoning for hypocrites who place their religiousity over untying people in bondage. What binds you? Are you bound by sin and pain from your past or are you bound the hypocrisy of your present? Hear this message today: Jesus offers freedom.
