What Went Wrong With This World?

Journey of Beginnings

What Went Wrong With This World?

Genesis 6-8

Three world conditions that caused God to say, I’ve had enough!”

1. Every intent of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil all the time. (verse 5)

2. The earth was full of violence. (verse 11)

3. All the people on earth had corrupted their ways. (verse 12)

Noah, a real person of faith steps up to the plate! (chapter 7&8)

1. He took action on the message he received from God.

2. His faith compelled him to complete a most difficult task.

3. Through his faith he and his immediate family were saved.

The coming of Jesus will be like the days of Noah. (Matthew 24:37,38; Luke 17:26,27)

1, People will be eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, buying and selling, planting and building.

2. The vast population did not wake up to realize what was happening until the flood came and destroyed them all.

God makes a covenant that effects you.

1. Never again will I send a flood that destroys everything (verse 8: 21,22; 9:13)

2. Step out of the Ark into the new life God offers you!

Pressing On Toward The Goal

Pressing On Toward The Goal

Philippians 3:7-14

Paul says he has many reasons to put confidence in the law.

His “religious pedigree” includes circumcision, tribe of Benjamin, a pharisee, and legalistic righteousness.

Everything Paul once considered profit he now sees as loss and calls it all rubbish.

Paul speaks of a righteousness that comes from law and a righteousness that comes from God by faith.

In Philippians 3:10, Paul wants to know three things. He wants to know Christ. He wants to know the power of His resurrection and he wants to know the fellowship of sharing in his suffering.

Paul realizes that he has not fully realized or attained his goal but he has purposed in his heart and is determined to press on.

He says, “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I Press on.

The First: Deception-Sin-Consequences

Journey of Beginnings

The First: Deception-Sin-Consequences

Scripture: Genesis chapter 3

Three cunning tactics of Satan exposed:

     1. He tries to instill doubt and unbelief in what God says. (verse 1a)

     2. He tries to create confusion with what God says . (verse 1b)

     3. He tries to imply that she is being deprived by God. (verse 4)

The “set up” for deception and what to watch out for:

     1. Overstating the restriction; feeling slighted (verse 2a)

     2. Understating the consequences; not connecting the dots (verse 2b)

     3. The fruit looked good, pleasant, and desirable - the addictive three (verse 6)

The big unanswered question:

Where is Adam, the dear husband and fearless leader? (verse 6)

     1. Eve was being deceived. (1 Timothy 2:14

     2. Adam walked into disobedience knowing better. (1Timothy 2:14)

Two destructive ways in responding to guilt:

     1. To hide and try a false cover for our shame. (verse 7,10,11)

     2. To blame someone or something. (verse 12,13)

The consequences of sin:

     1. Serpent- you are cursed above all, crawl on your belly and eat dust all your life. There will be enmity between you and the woman. Her offspring will crush your head. (verse 14,15)

     2. Woman-Your pain in childbearing will be severe. There will be tension as to who is in charge, but he (your husband) will rule over you. (verse 16)

     3. Adam-cursed is the ground, it will produce thorns and thistles and you will work hard all your life. (verse 17-19)

LORD God-“Adam and Eve, where are you?”

     1. Jesus made cloths for them from an animal sacrifice (verse 22)

     2. As an act of mercy He protected them from eating of the tree of life and living forever in their sin. (verse 22-24)

     3. The very first promise of the coming Savior. (Gen. 3:15)

In The Beginning God...

Journey of Beginnings

In The Beginning God...

Scripture: Genesis 1:1-3

Christian World View

The Bible is not a science book, however when it makes a statement related to science; it is the truth because God is both the author of science and the Bible.

Natural Revelation 1-6 Special Revelation 7-11 Experiential Revelation 12-14

Derived Truth Revealed Truth Experienced Truth

1. Hypothesis The Bible is perfect, Meditation, contemplation,

2. Theory Refreshing, Trustworthy worship

3. Law

Genesis 1

Two views of the Genesis creation:

1. The mature earth view

2. An earth before Adam and Eve that was overthrown by Lucifer’s revolt

DOES GOD CREATE AND EMPTY FORMLESS EARTH (Isaiah 45:18)

According to Isaiah God did not create the earth empty and formless.

HOW DID THE EARTH GET LIKE THIS? (Isaiah 14:12ff; Jer. 4:23-27; 2 Peter 3:6-7

Lucifer because of pride and rebellion was cast out of heaven.

1. I will ascend into heaven.

2. I will set my throne above the stars.

3. I will sit upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north.

4. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.

5. I will make myself like the Most High.

Is this the man that shook the earth and made kingdoms to tremble, and opened not the graves of its prisoners?

Two Key Words:

1. Created (bara) to call into existence that which did not exist before

2. Made (asah) to form or fashion something out of material already existing.

What does it mean to be created in God’s Image and Likeness (Verse 26)

How Do I Become a Christ Follower

HOW DO I BECOME A CHRIST FOLLOWER

Scripture: John 9:1-41

Five historical ways the church has created confusion for those seeking to become Christ followers:

1. By acceptance of theological assumptions as truth when their bases is faulty. (verse 2)

2. By interpreting truth from the bases of tradition. (verse 14)

3. By requiring adherence to church law at the expense of truth. (verse 22)

4. By establishing the authority of truth by citing history. (verses 28,29)

5. By attempting to preserve reputation at the expense of the authentic. (verse 41)

How do I become a Christ follower?

1. By admitting that we all were spiritually blind. (verse 1)

2. By doing what Jesus asks us to do. (verse 7)

3. By being bold and honest about our encounter with Jesus. (verses 9-12)

4. By growing in our understanding of who Jesus is. (verses 17, 33, 38)

5. By believing and trusting HIM (verses 36-38)

God’s Passion: To Be Worshipped Among All Nations

God’s Passion: To Be Worshipped Among All Nations

His heartbeat:

1. “I myself will provide for my sheep and look after them.”

2. You will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, for the display of His splendor.

3. To Pharaoh: (Ex.9:13-16)

    “I have raised you up:

    a.  that I might show you My power and;

    b. that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

4. To the house of Israel: (Ez.36:16-23)

    a. “I had concern for My holy name.”

    b. You profaned My name by your disobedience.

    c. “I will show Myself holy through you before their eyes.”

    d. “Then the nations will know that I am LORD.”

Conclusion:

Missions is the vehicle to bring all nations to the feet of our great God!

Worship is the fuel and goal of missions.

Quote from John Piper:

“Missions isn’t the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of missions. It’s the goal of missions because in missions we simply aim to bring the nations into the white-hot enjoyment of God’s glory.” (Let the Nations be Glad, the Supremacy of God in Missions)

Freedom In Worship

365 Worship

FREEDOM IN WORSHIP

Scripture: Matthew 11:16-19

If Jesus was to describe your worship what would He liken it to?

Three practices that will eventually kill worship every time:

1. Arguing about how to worship

2. Being unresponsive in worship

3. Being critical of someone else’s worship

When Worship Becomes Your Alibi

365 Worship

When Worship Becomes Your Alibi

What is our response when God shows up?

‘And they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.’ John 4:24

If true or acceptable worship is in ‘spirit and in truth,’ than it follows that as a worshipper encounters God, he or she is called to an authentic and proper response. The worship of a living God that responds to our worship can never be passive. We must not be people who C S. Lewis described when he wrote, ‘We have become all about discovering Him, yet controlling and limiting our response.

1. Your worship is proven by your life.

‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.’

Galatians 5:22-23

We cannot worship God in any significant way and not have the fruit of His Spirit breaking down the door to express Himself in us and through us.

2. The Delusion created by worship

Malachi 1:10 ‘Who is there among you who would shut the doors, So that you would not kindle fire on my alter in vain?’

There is a dangerous spiritual condition generated when we continue to live in secret sin and yet feel close to God in worship. Close encounters with God without life changing responses create a false sense that everything must be OK.

A true worshipper lives in defiance of human reason and expectation.

Expressions of Worship

365 Worship
“Expressions of Worship”

We Worship personally in continuous or 365 WORSHIP.

We Worship corporately in gathered WORSHIP.

Romans 11:36-12:1 “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” (emphasis added)

We hold the object of our worship in a position of glory and we make sacrifices for that object of our worship.

Hebrews 13:15-16 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

365 Worship expresses itself in action and adoration.

The Flow of Worship

365 WORSHIP

The tabernacle was the most important object lesson for Israel during a period of 500 years to know how to worship God and come into His presence – “Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” (Exodus 25:8) Since then it has become the reference point for 365 worship down through the centuries.

6. The Ark of the Covenant – God shows up and accepts your worship (Exodus 25:10-16)
↑
5. Altar of Incense – Stay fresh (Exodus 30:1-10)
↑
4. Presence bread – Have a life (Exodus 25:23-30)
↑
3. Menorah – Shine a light (Exodus 25:31-40)
↑
2. Laver – Get washed (Exodus 30:17-21)
↑

Can This Revival Live?

Can This Revival Live?
Receiving and Sustaining Life Change

Revival has to do with a move of God in such a way that new life is brought into discouraging and lifeless situations. In our quest for help and God’s presence we wrestle with the question, ‘What brings God out of hiding?’

Revival is sometimes difficult to identify. It’s not what we thought. Luke 19:39-44 ‘….you did not know the time of your visitation.’

Revival is seldom a comfortable journey.
Acts 14 ‘We must, through many tribulations, enter the kingdom of God.’

Revival exalts Jesus Christ.
Acts 2:38 ‘Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.’

We tend to clean the house but leave it empty. A trait of true revival is lasting life change.
Galatians 5:22-23 ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.’

What God Did to Win Your Heart so You Can Live!

When we experience renewal as a Christ follower, there is a wonderful assurance of sins forgiven; the heart is clean; the soul free. Faith does not stagger at the promises of God. Prayer lays hold on heaven with fresh power. Love fills the heart with worship and there is spontaneous praise of an awesome God.
There may have been a time when you experienced all of this but today you feel like something is missing. The thrill in personal time with God has diminished. There is no spring in your step: no music in your soul. The joy of sacrifice is gone. Yet there is hope. People throughout history have turned to the Lord on His terms and become part of the greatest spiritual awakenings. God specializes in "Waking the Dead".

WAKING THE DEAD
“What God Did to Win Your Heart so You Can Live!”

Of all the final words that have ever been spoken, none are more precious, none more revealing, none filled with more meaning and wisdom, none pierce the soul with more love than these last crucial words of Jesus from the cross. They are the windows into the very heart of Jesus and the gospel.

Forgiveness at it’s hardest!
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Luke 23:24

I’m sure I’ll see you in Heaven.
“Today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43

I am doing this to ease your pain.
“Woman, behold your son…” John 19:26-27

I didn’t leave you, I just couldn’t stand to watch – Father
“My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?” Matt. 27:46

Suffering at its worst - alone “I thirst” John 19:28

Collect the right trophies “It is finished” John 19:30

The fate of your soul-to whom will you entrust it?
“Father, into your hands I commend My spirit.” Luke 13:46

THE KING STILL HAS ONE MORE MOVE!

Can This Church Live?

WAKING THE DEAD

"Can This Church Live?"

Scripture: Matthew 21: 12-22

In what way was the Temple Church a "den of robbers?"

1.	By cheating the poor.
2.	By squeezing out the immigrants, women and children.
3.	By exploiting people in the name of religion for profit.
4.	By having empty forms of religion, but no Jesus.

Jesus takes action to revive His Church!

1.	He confronted the religious power systems and "unseated them"
2.	He turned the tables on injustice.
3.	He called for His church to be known as a House of Prayer for "all nations".
4.	He created space in His church for safe places of ministry.
5.	He protected the priority of spontaneous worship.

What upset Jesus about the fig tree? (Verses 18-22)

1.	The fig tree like the church was to hold out the promise of
"spiritual fruit" to the world but what Jesus saw was a church (like the fig tree) appearing nice on the outside with lots of activity but no 'spiritual vitality'!
2.	How does our personal temple need cleansing this morning?

Waking up Dry Bones

WAKING THE DEAD

“Waking up Dry Bones”

Scripture: Ezekiel 37:1-16

The background, context and setting of Ezekiel’s vision: (Vs.1-10)

Three clues that the church needs revival: (Vs. 11)

   1. We are spiritually dry
   2. We feel hopeless in our present situation
   3. God seems distant

Five conditions that bring revival: (Vs. 12-14)

   1. God cares about spiritual dryness and moves on our behalf.
   2. God calls for a proclamation (hinnabe) of the WORD to confront the dryness.
   3. The proclaimed WORD wakes the dead and creates new life.
   4. God restores back to us what was stolen, killed and destroyed. (We are in a war)
   5. God backs the preached WORD with a powerful demostration of His Spirit.

God’s thrill with revival! (Vs. 14)

THEN YOU WILL KNOW THAT I THE LORD HAVE SPOKEN, AND I HAVE DONE IT, DECLARES THE LORD

Pick Up That Baton

Pick Up That Baton

What matters most?

‘Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…’ Hebrews 12:2a

‘And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a
witness to all nations, and than will the end come’ Matthew 24:4-14

I am struck with the realization that the timing of God’s purposes is at times contingent on people. God has a plan that is relying on you and me to carry out.

We are members of the kingdom of God and to some degree responsible how it is administered on this earth during our lifetime. So while life may be looked at as a race that we as individuals run, as Paul described it, it is also a relay. We are an integral part of the whole. What we do or don’t do contributes to, or adversely affects the completion of God’s plan. We easily lose sight of the significance of the moment in the larger picture of what God has done, is doing, and will do.

Some characteristics of the early church (first three centuries).

1. They were moved by a burning conviction Galatians 2:20

2. Persecution and the Christian’s response to it had a profound impact on those who witnessed and administered it.Hebrews 11:32-40

3. The gospel as presented filled a heartfelt need. It presented life change and grace. Ephesians 2:8, James 1:12

4. The practical expression of Christian love was one of the most
powerful causes of early Christian success Matthew 25:35-40

We are on the team with them and are called to ‘Pick up the Baton’ and run our portion of the race.

Rest is an Inside Job

“RUNNING ON EMPTY”
Rest is an Inside Job
Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30 Isaiah 40:11; 30-31

“It does not differ with me whether I am in prayer or hearing the noise and clutter of my kitchen, while several persons are at the same time calling for things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were upon my knees.” Stated by Brother Lawrence in The Practice of the Presence of God over 200 years ago

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

JESUS OFFERS THREE SOLUTIONS.
1. “Come to Me”
2. “Take My yoke upon you”
3. “Learn from Me”

WHY ARE THESE SOLUTIONS SUCH A BIG DEAL?
1. Why come to Him? Because you will find rest for your soul!
2. Why take His yoke? Because it will be the best fit for you.
3. Why learn from Him? Because you will learn how to rest while working.

TWO POWERFUL SYMBOLS THAT BRING HOPE FOR US CHANGE. (Isaiah 40:11; 30-31)
1.	He tends His flock like a Shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads those that have young.
2.	Those who wait upon the Lord will soar like eagles and never grow weary

Hurried Sickness: Causes and Cures

“RUNNING ON EMPTY”

Hurried Sickness: Causes and Cures

Scripture: Luke 12:15-21 Mark 6:30-32; 45-46

Hurried sickness is a pattern of going too fast and doing too much for too long that leaves you feeling physically emotionally, relationally, spiritually exhausted and empty.

Three illusions that lead to hurried sickness:

1. The quick and easy illusion-things in life should be quick and easy.

2. The illusion of moreism -more stuff will make us more happy.

3. The illusion of control -we are in control of our lives and our future

Three confusions that lead to hurried sickness:

1. The urgent overshadows the important.

2. The temporary becomes a substitute for the eternal.

3. Activity replaces intimacy.

Four quick and easy steps for conquering hurried sickness:

1. Practice the spiritual discipline of slowing. (Tip: leave earlier).

2. Build rest and recovery time into your schedule (Tip: schedule your priorities).

3. Reduce, discard and simplify. (Tip: turn off the TV).

4. Review your priorities. (Tip: annual retreat for personal reflection).

Hurried Sickness: Restoring the Weary Heart

“RUNNING ON EMPTY”

Hurried Sickness: Restoring the Weary Heart

Hurried sickness is a pattern of going too fast and doing too much for too long leaving you feeling physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually exhausted and empty.

Hurried sickness is ultimately a confusion of priorities.

Our time and energy become focused in the wrong direction.

What is the greatest cost of hurried sickness?

The ability to love - love and hurry are fundamentally incompatible.

Love requires energy - energy is something that hurried people do not have.

Love also requires passion, for hurried people passion is in short supply.

Our top priority or purpose on this earth is to love God and other people with all our heart.

Doing More and Enjoying it Less

RUNNING ON EMPTY
“Doing More and Enjoying it Less”
Scripture: Isaiah 5:8-10
Who has the final call as to when your plate is too full? (v.8)
The truth is, life gets very lonely without margins. (v.8)
FOUR TIMES THE “EMPTY” WARNING LIGHT SHOULD COME ON!
1. When relationships close to you, that really matter, begin
to suffer. (v.8)
2. When acquiring your dream results in too much compromise. (v.8)
3. When there are no principled boundaries. (v.8)
4. When there is diminished joy. (v.9,10)
CAN YOU CHANGE WHAT YOU’RE DOING? (Psalm 32:8,9)
1. GOD ~ “I will instruct you and teach you in the way
which you should go.”
2. GOD ~ “I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”
3. Don’t be like the horse or the mule!

How Did He Do That?

How Did He Do That?
From the life of Stephen, Acts 6, 7

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

It is important that we take a deep look at our lives and recognize what priorities drive us, what conclusions we arrive at, how we arrive at them, and vast difference between intention and reality.

“We’ve read all the books and we still don’t do what we know we should.”
1.	Stephen’s strong point was not what he could do, rather that the Holy Spirit was absolutely central in him.

2.	His ministry was not a place of personal fulfillment; rather it became yet another platform for him to show the reality of the risen Christ.

3.	Stephen did not ask “Where is God now that I need Him?”

4.	Stephen was a giver. He showed us that the closer we get to God it is not so much a matter of what we give, rather it becomes an issue of what we no longer want to keep.

5.	Stephen’s life disintegrates while God watches and he is OK with that.

A Vision Worth Dying For

A Vision Worth Dying For
Scripture: Acts 2:41-47

What is our unique DNA?
We are an evangelical church theologically, but we are not very traditional.
We experience spiritual unity in the midst of broad diversity.
We engage our culture on their level without “watering down” our message.
We appreciate order and excellence along with freedom of the Spirit and the gifts.
We take sin seriously but extend grace to the sinner.
We have specialized training for all ages and gender, but believe strongly in the integrated church family.
We believe the church, as God intended it to be, is the hope of the world.

Why I would die for this vision of 34 years:
The Word of God trumps everything in this media saturated world heralding the absolute TRUTH that sets us free.
Worshiping God and enjoying Him in the midst of all other enticing distractions is the ultimate fulfillment in life.
Connecting with other Christ followers in spiritual community is to experience the “greatest family” here on earth.
Learning to pray and then praying will guarantee living life a notch above the ordinary.
Taking the initiative to walk across the room to get acquainted will earn the privilege to share the greatest gift in life.

Generations of Prayer Usher in the Greatest Movements in History

“HOW TO PRAY” ADVENT SERIES
Generations of Prayer Usher in the Greatest Movements in History
Scripture: Luke 2:1-20

The World Setting: (verses 1-3)
Caesar Augustus ruled the Roman Empire for 45 years. (30 BC – 14 AD)
He was a brilliant, gifted, remarkable leader.
He was worshipped as a god.
He ordered a census to be taken of the entire Roman Empire.
Everyone has to register in their ancestral town.
The National Setting: (verses 4,5)
Joseph and Mary went from their home town, Nazareth, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, to register.
Micah’s Prophecy: (Micah 5:2)
Was spoken 700 years before Jesus is born.
A ruler will be born in Bethlehem who has been alive forever.
He will shepherd my people Israel.
The Personal Setting:
This very pregnant 13-15 year old girl is leaving home with her teenage husband to take a 3 day trip to Bethlehem.
She is going to give birth with no mother present, no family, just a teenaged husband.
The place of birth was a manger (feeding trough). There was no room in the inn.
She wrapped him in cloths (swaddling).
The importance of the night witnesses: shepherds and angels
What is God’s personal word to us?
Generations of prayer come together for God’s greatest movements to happen. God can and will do it again!
The way of Jesus to change the world is very different.
He came all the way down to bring about change.
Look in the mirror of power. How do you see yourself?

Anna, the Long Time Prayer Warrior

“How to Pray” Advent Series
Anna, the Long Time Prayer Warrior
Scriptures: Luke 2:36-38; 11:5-13; 18:1-8

Will you join me in honoring Anna? (Luke 2:36-38)
1.	For being a prophetess.
2.	For being a 24/7 prayer warrior.
3.	For being hopeful.
4.	For being a “Walk Across The Room” person.

What does Anna teach us about prayer?
1.	To never stop praying. (Luke 18:1-8)
a.	WHY? Because people who quite praying will eventually lose ¬-_______ and lose ________
2.	To be shameless in our persistence. (Luke 11:5-8)
a.	HOW? Get over our pride and independence.
3.	To wait on God. (Luke 11:9-10)
a.	BECAUSE waiting seems to get us on target.
4.	That prayer is not an overcoming of God’s reluctance but laying hold of His highest willingness.
a.	PROOF – “The door will be opened to you”; “And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him?”; “How much more will your heavenly Father know how to give you the very best of gifts.”

What About Baptism

"What About Baptism"

Matthew 3:11-17

11-12"I'm baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. The real action comes next: the main character in this drama--compared to him I'm a mere stagehand--will ignite the kingdom life within you, a fire within you, the Holy Spirit within you, changing you from the inside out. He's going to clean house--make a clean sweep of your lives. He'll place everything true in its proper place before God; everything false He'll put out with the trash to be burned."

13-14Jesus then appeared, arriving at the Jordan River from Galilee. He wanted John to baptize Him. John objected, "I'm the one who needs to be baptized, not you!"

15But Jesus insisted. "Do it. God's work, putting things right all these centuries, is coming together right now in baptism." So John did it.

16-17The moment Jesus came up out of the baptismal waters, the skies opened up and He saw God's spirit--it looked like a dove--descending and landing on Him. And along with the Spirit, a voice: "This is my Son, chosen and marked by My love, delight of My life."

How To Pray

“HOW TO PRAY” ADVENT SERIES

Scriptures: Luke 1:5-25; Matthew 6:5-8

Zacharias in a crises and the opportunity of his life time (Luke 1:5-25)

The problem:

He and his wife, Elizabeth, were childless.
They were both well advanced in years.
The opportunity of his life time:
He was chosen by lot to go into the most holy place of the temple to burn incense.

He used this opportunity of a life time to petition God for a son.
God heard and answered his prayer.

They would be given a son who would prepare the way for the Lord:

He will be a joy and delight to you.
Many others will rejoice at his birth.
He will be great in the sight of the Lord.
He will bring many in Israel back to the Lord.
He will come in the spirit and power of Elijah.

Six principles on how you are to pray (Matthew 6:5-8)

1. Don’t pray for show.
2. Pray in the inner chamber. (Bridal identity).
3. Close the door (Your Father is already there).
4. Your Father who is in the secret place will reward you openly.
5. Don’t try to manipulate God with your many words.
6. The Father knows what you need before you ask.

Am I A Thankful Person?

“AM I A THANKFUL PERSON?”

Do people see me as a thankful person? Do I come across as a grateful individual? Does my family know me as one who remembers to give thanks and show appreciation? Does GOD see me as one who is thankful? Does my communication with God reflect a grateful person, or does He hear mostly “give me, give me, give me, help me, bless me?”

THE SCRIPTURE:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

THREE GOALS FOR THIS THANKSGIVING SEASON:

1. I am invited by God to live a life free of anxiety.

2. When I am anxious I am invited to make requests in prayer with thanksgiving.

3. I am asked by God to find a way to give thanks in all circumstances.

True friendships develop lasting fruit and purify spiritual intimacy

(John 15:12-17)

We have been invited to take our mask off.

The entreaty of grace and truth is so liberating. (John 8:32)

We have been invited to come out of the closet.

WOW! No longer living with condemning secrets. (Ephesians 5:8-14)

We have been invited to confess our sins to each other.

So that we may be healed. (James 5:16,17)

Better Together – 40 Days of Community
“Does Anyone Care”
Today’s Scripture: Matthew 5: 16
1. No one left alone
We become acquainted
Are new relationships worth the risk and the inconvenience?
1 Corinthians 13: Love allows no loop hole.

2. No one remains unchallenged
We learn together
Jeremiah 17:9 ‘The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.’
We all need help

3. Everyone learns to encourage someone
We serve together
Ephesians 2:10 ‘We are created in Christ Jesus for good works.’

4. It takes leaders
We set priorities
2 Timothy 2:1-2 ‘and the things that you have heard from me……. commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others.’

How to be Genuine in our Giving and Receiving from One Another

Better Together – 40 Days of Community

“How to be Genuine in our Giving and Receiving from One Another”

Today’s Scripture: Philippians 4: 10-20

Be grateful for the gift of friendship. (Verse 10)

A true relationship can’t grow when we are using the other person. (Verse 11)

True happiness comes not from things but the sufficiency of Christ (Verse 12, 13)

People in distress should experience a church community that genuinely cares (Verse 14)

Be genuinely grateful for the giving of fellow Christ followers
(Verse 1:5; 2:25-30; 4:15-20)

Don’t seek their gift as much as rejoice in the fruit which is added to their account by their giving (Verse 17)

You need to know that your gift is first of all a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice well pleasing to God. (Verse 18)

You need to be reminded that God will supply all your needs from His glorious riches (Verse 19)

Serving Together: Living and Working with a Team

Better Together – 40 Days of Community
Serving Together: Living and Working with a Team
Scripture: Daniel 1,3
The overall aim of this 40 Days o Community series is to answer the question, “What on Earth are We Here For”? The first message introduced the series and called us to understand ‘Why We Need Each Other’, and why we are ‘Better Together’. Last week Pastor Mel taught on ‘What Destroys Relationships and What Builds Them’. Today we want to look at ‘Serving Together’, The value and strength of working together in teams.
What are the ingredients of a TEAM?
Trust - is the glue that holds it all together. 1 Timothy 6:20
Empathy - You can’t have harmony without sympathy. 1 Peter 3:8
Accommodating - make space for others 2 Timothy 2:22
Mission	- You must have a common goal or cause. Philippians 2:2

What are some goals of the team?
1.Help me establish priorities Matthew 6:33 “But Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…”
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.”

2.Bring accountability into my life Romans 12:1-2 “Be not conformed to this world.”

3. Challenge me to serve others John 13:34-35 “Love one another as I have loved you” You can’t love others and not serve them to some degree.

What Destroys Relationships And What Builds them?

Better Together – 40 Days of Community

What Destroys Relationships And What Builds them?

Selfishness destroys relationships

It is human nature to be selfish
Selfishness destroys teamwork
EGO stands for Edging God Out

Selflessness builds them

Selflessness brings out the best in others (Philippians 2:4)
God has favorite places to teach selflessness
God rewards selflessness (Galatians 6:7,8)

Pride destroys relationships

Pride leads to arguments (Proverbs 13:10)
Pride is very self-deceiving (Proverbs 16:18)

Humility builds them

Humility helps us live in harmony (1 Peter 3:8)
Humility opens the way for us to change our way of thinking (Ephesians 4:23-24)
Humility gives honor to others (1 Philippians 2:3, 5-6)

Insecurity destroys relationships

The fear of human opinion disables (Proverbs 29:25)
Insecurity prevents intimacy

Love builds them

Perfect love expels all fear (1 John 4:18)
Love brings an honest view of “self” (1 Corinthians 13:4,5)

Resentment destroys relationships

When you get resentful you stop thinking clearly (Psalm 73)
Watch out that no resentment takes root (Hebrews 12:15)

Forgiveness builds them

Forgiveness is letting go of the past and letting go of my right to get even.

Why We Need Each Other

Better Together – 40 Days of Community
“Why We Need Each Other”
This morning we begin our new series on 40 Days of Community. As we plan to deepen our relationships within our church, we also will be joining eight other churches in reaching out to our community. We want to build awareness of three important goals during these messages: 1. No one is to be left alone. 2. No one is to remain unchallenged. 3. Everyone is to learn how to encourage someone. Pastor Mel

1.	We Fellowship Better Together
Acts 2:42a	1 Corinthians 14:9
2.	We Worship Better Together
Leviticus 23:3
3.	We Grow Better Together
Ephesians 4:16
4.	We Serve Better Together
Philippians 2:1-2
5.	We Reach Out Together
Philippians 1:27

I am asking you to consider these four things the next 40 days:
1.	Pray for community to deepen within our church.
2.	Try to be here each Sunday.
3.	Consider joining a small group.

The Mark of a Holy Person

The Mark of a Holy Person:
“to Tremble at the Word of the LORD”
Isaiah 66
The fourth message in our series: How Then Shall We Live?
A focus on holy living in a complicated world

“This is the person I delight in, he that is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.” (Isaiah 66:3)
“Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at His Word.” (verse 5)
Blessed are those who always tremble before God, But those who harden their hearts fall into trouble (Proverbs 28:14)

Five ways we get distracted from
“Trembling at the Word of the LORD”

1 Samuel 15
1.	To be in the game for earthly trophies. (verse 12)
2.	To spiritualize disobedience and give it a nice face. (verse 21)
3.	To value status symbols of community, power, and prestige. (verse 22,23)
4.	To esteem the wisdom of ME, MYSELF and I without consulting God’s guidance. (verse 23)
5.	To have a greater fear of people then of God (verse 24)

Five Benefits from fearing God

You become the LORD’s confidant. (Psalm 25:13)
You see the love and the good in His commands (Psalm 112:1)
It motivates you toward obedience and brings a family blessing (Psalm 128)
Holiness is perfected in you out of fear of God (1 Corinthians 7:1)
Marriages can be restored in the fear of Christ (Ephesians 5:21)

High Definition Living

High Definition Living?
The tension of Holiness and Freedom

1 Corinthians 8

An opinion is a position you hold, with varying degrees of intensity that is merely voicing a preference you may have. A conviction it hat which is roted in your conscience. “ Ravi Zacharias

It is not unusual that we regard our opinions with a greater degree of intensity than we do our conscience. Consequently, we may be careful what we believe, yet are noticeably more casual in how we live.

1.	Enduring the scrutiny
●	The very discussion of personal holiness implies personal scrutiny.
●	1 Peter 1:17
●	1 Corinthians 3:1-17

Rick Joyner – “Walking in the light is more than knowing and obeying certain truths. It is being true and being free from the compulsion to hide.”

2.	The relief that freedom brings.
●	The basic ingredient of freedom in Christ is our call, and desire to love as we were created to love.
●	Romans 13:8, Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another
●	Luke 15, The Prodigal, ‘When he was yet a long way off…”
●	We are free now to love and pursue God and others. No longer driven to serve ourselves.

3.	The problem of weakness in ourselves and others.
●	1 Corinthians 8
●	Understanding the difference between disagreeing with someone who thinks and believes differently from you vs. offending a weaker Christian.
●	It is also important that we recognize our weak areas and guard ourselves.

The pursuit of Holiness is ultimately a pursuit of God, not issues or situations

Who Gets to Say What Sin Is?

Who Gets to Say What Sin Is?
The second message in our series: How Then Shall We Live?
A focus on holy living in a complicated world

God Does!
New Testament word for sin:
Hamartia – used 217 times as “missing the mark”
Missing the whole point of one’s life and purpose for why I am here.
Four kinds of Sin:
1.	inherent depravity of nature (1 Corinthians 15:21, 22)
2.	Missing the mark as THE SIN (John 8:24)
3.	Acts of sinning (Matthew 15:18-20)
4.	The unpardonable sin (Mark 3:28,29)

I Do!
Blessed is the person who does not condemn himself by what he approves. Romans 14:22
If you believe it is wrong to drink and eat certain foods, then for you it is wrong. Romans 14:14
Whatever is not of faith is sin. Romans 14:23

My Christ following friend does!
Decide to live in such a way that you will not put an obstacle in another Christ follower’s path. Romans 14:23

If a Christ follower is distressed by what you eat or drink, you are not acting in love if you do it. Romans 14:15

Don’t eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another Christ follower to stumble. Romans 14:21

We must be considerate of the doubts and fears of those who think these things are wrong. Romans 15:1

In Pursuit of Holiness

In Pursuit Toward Holiness?
How Then Shall We Live?
(The first in a series on holy living in a complicated world)
Isaiah 6:1-8
The words saint, sanctify, holy, holiness in the New Testament are all translations of this same Greek root – hagi
The verb hagios means a “set apart for God person”

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)

But just as He who called you is holy , so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “ Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:15, 16)

We face four defining experiences in our pursuit toward holiness.
“YBH” Yes, But How?

1.	It’s according to our proximity to God’s presence that we encounter His holiness. (verse 1-4)

2.	Coming to a crisis of brokenness releases His holy transformation to make us Christ-like. (verse 5)

3.	Accept the awesome cal to be “set apart“ for God from that which is secular. (verse 6-7)

4.	We can’t help but to be compelled to take on His holy action and make a difference in this sorry world. (verse 8-9)

Living the 3 R's

A study of the wilderness journey.

What is the purpose of a wilderness journey? What does God want you to learn when all you can see is sand? What should you be praying for? What helpful requests do you make to God? If you pass the test do you graduate from the wilderness and never go back? These questions will be explored in the message this morning.

Called to Worship, But All I See is Sand

Living Life in God's Perspective

We often hear the statement; "Everything rises and falls on leadership." While this statement has merit and relevance, that really did not hold true for the Children of Israel. They had the best leader (Duet. 34:10) yet experienced significant difficulties in their walk with God. Perhaps we should also conclude that "Everything rises and falls on what you worship." Worship is not an event; rather an issue of value, prominence, and thought.

Chasing a Mirage

Chasing a Mirage

Living life in God's Perspective
- Are we seeing things that God is not seeing.
- The ultimate perspective of God is that all would come to the knowledge of Him.
- The power and relevancy of the gospel breaks down when I use it for personal gain.
- My perspective of God comes out of my enounters with Him.
- Gods perspective impacts our life.
- We must listen to God in our spirit.
- Be careful what you base your decisions on.

Moving Anywhere But There

Transitions in all of life are inevitable. Transitions with God are difficult for us because we generally cannot see where or to what we are to transition to. God may take us out of our current dilemma, however He often moves us on into a more difficult situation. When God comes to help us and He in turn brings us (in our opinion) into a worse situation than where we were, it creates a problem for us. Why would God, who is sovereign, allow or orchestrate such a situation. Unless, of course, God is up to something we cannot understand.

The Journey of Faith

23 By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. 29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.

Grieving the Spirit? Stop Sinning

Spirit Fire Series
Grieving the Spirit? Stop Sinning.
Ephesians 4:17-32

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30)

Grieve, Lupeo – to cause pain, distress and sorrow as being in travail

Sins that grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:19-31)
Sensuality with all kinds of impurity (verse 19)
	Greed (verse 19)
	Lying (verse 25)
Anger that is sinful and rage (verse 26 & 31)
Foul or abusive language (verse 29)
	Bitterness (verse 31)
	Slander and fighting (verse 31)
Bad, wicked behavior of all kinds (verse 31)

Three powerful initiatives of the Holy Spirit when He is grieved
1.	The Holy Spirit wants to birth “new creation”. (Genesis 1:1,2)
2.	Where the Spirit is released there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
3.	The Spirit empowers a glorious transformation. (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Just a Regular Dad

Fatherhood is this great thing that we become. With all the joy, promise and potential that it invites, it is also a cause for some of our deepest despair and fear. A feeling of ineptness easily and quickly invades our world. We realize almost instantly that we have become someone that we have no idea how to be. True and lasting successes seem hard to identify and failures seem glaring. How we handle our own thoughts, attitudes and lives has a huge impact on our families future. The most significant and powerful influence in our children’s lives has to do with how practically we follow God our Father. As we learn to wrestle, hear and follow Him, we in turn cannot help but treat our families as He treats us. While Jesus was never a father, He certainly showed us a clear example of a father’s heart that followed God the Father. ‘…who loved us and gave Himself for us.’

“I’m not afraid of what history will say about me, because I intent to write it.”
~Winston Churchill

Had Enough of Doing it Your Way? Accept a Guide

Christ Followers are led by the Holy Spirit
"For Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God".
(Romans 8:14)
        1. Christ followers can pray to be led by the Spirit.
        2. Those who are led by the Spirit are not going their own way.
        3. The Superior one is doing the leading.
        4. To be lead by the Spirit does not mean being carried.

How does the Holy Spirit lead us?
"The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's Children." (Romans 8:16)

        1. By an inward witness that is God's Spirit communicating with our human spirit. (Acts 27:9, 10)
        2. By an inward voice that is the "lamp of the LORD" shedding light on our conscience.
"The human spirit is the lamp of the LORD that sheds light on one's inmost being." (Proverbs 20:27)
" I speak the truth in Christ-I am not lying. my conscience confirms it though the Holy Spirit." (Romans 9:1)
        3. By wordless groans of Spirit intercession that help us in our weakness to know the will of God. (Romans 8:26, 27)

What does the voice of the Holy Spirit sound like?
        1. Inspired Word of God. ( 2 Timothy 3:16)
        2. Word of Wisdom. (Acts 15:13)
        3. Word of Knowledge. Peter - "Ananias, why did you lie to the Holy Spirit?" (Acts 5:3)
        4. Prophetic Guidance. (Acts 21:8-14)
        5. Visions and Dreams. (Acts 10:19)

This will always be my holy anointing oil. It must never be poured on the body of an ordinary person, and you must never make any of it for yourselves. It is holy and you must treat it as holy. Exodus 30

The Four Anointings
	1. The Leper Anointing (Leviticus 14:17,18)
	2. The Priest Anointing (Exodus 40:13; Leviticus 8:12,30)
	3. The Prophet Anointing (1 Kings 19:16)
	4. The King Anointing (1 Samuel 16:13)

Accept the power and authority of your anointing. (2 Corinthians 1:21; 1 John 2:27)

Accept the measure of your anointing. (1 Samuel 13:8-14)
Jesus had the Spirit without measure (John 4:34)
We have a measure of the Spirit. (Ephesians 4:7)

The “Body of Christ” has the full anointing. (Ephesians 4)
To the degree we function with Christ as our Head and the Body under Him in unity we experience this same anointing.

Yokes will be lifted because of the anointing. (Isaiah 10:27)

You can’t turn it on and you can’t turn it off. (John 3:8)

Are You Dry? Jump in the River

Global Day of Prayer.

Spirit Fire Series

Are you dry? Jump in the River.

Who baptizes you with the Holy Spirit? Jesus

In every Gospel John's baptism for repentance is compared with Jesus who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Matthew 3:11

John baptized you with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:5

Are you ignorant of these facts? 1 Corinthians 10:1-5

One Pillar, a cloud by day and fire at night. Exodus 13:21 14:31

One Rock, but two stories separated by 40 years.
Exodus 17:1-7 Numbers 20:1-13

Jesus - can you hear me now? John 7:37-39

            1. If any person is thirsty
            2. Come to Me and drink
            3. If you believe in Me as the Bible has promised
            4. Out of your inner most being will flow rivers of living water

Being baptized in the Spirit means to be totally immersed by the Spirit.

1. Some people at conversion give themselves completely to God are totally immersed by the Holy Spirit.
2. Some people at conversion receive Jesus Christ but hold on to some areas of their life not willing to give themselves completely to God.
3. At a later time they give over every area of their life and experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit

Do not have the Holy Spirit residing in them. Romans 8:9

It's Missions Sunday...So What?

Here at MCCH mission Sundays have been the norm for over thirty years. So what difference could one more Sunday designated to missions make in the life of our church? When you awoke this morning did you jump out of bed and say "Wow Today is missions Sunday, and I can hardly wait to get to church." Were those noble thoughts front of mind; as you wrote out your check for the missions offering? I don't mean to be sarcastic but I do want to jolt out thinking about what God has on His heart for us today. I am impressed with the simple request Jesus made to His disciples that absolutely changed their missional future. Pastor Mel

Pastor Mel's three prayer requests:
1. That we would become bolder in connecting with people throughout the week to become Christ followers.
2. That we would experience the transforming power of the Word of God throughout our church family.
3.That we would become more compassionate about the needs of our community.

Refusing Defeat

...and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. (John 15:2)
The Lord is with us. Do not fear them. (Numbers 14:9)

Issues that contribute to our spiritual defeat
1. Pruning in our lives is misunderstood, so we do our own pruning.
2. We are consumed by the present.
3. A misunderstanding of our present situation causes rebellion to be born in our heads.
4. We learn to remain in what was to be a temporary/transitional place.
5. If we continue to live in personal defeat we may not want to be liberated.
6. If going forward doesn't seem to work we accept defeat as a way of life.

Running Fast but not Connected to the Father's Heart

Whether we realize it or not, we're in a battle, a spiritual battle and out of that conflict we run with a message. What is the message? Are we "running" with the correct one? All of our lives are on display, like an open book, communicating some "message". In our world and in the time we live it is absolutely crucial that as we run, we run with the message that is on the Father's heart. In today's sermon we will see how well meaning, energetic Christ followers can get out of stride and get disconnected from the Father. Pastor Mel

Its SUNDAY - Christ Followers Have Never Been the Same

Late Friday afternoon Joseph, with the help of Nicodemus, took the body of Jesus down from the cross and placed it in his family tomb. On Sunday, before sunrise, there was an earthquake during which two angels came and rolled back the stone. At day break on Sunday morning the women brought spices and discovering the empty tomb notified Peter and John. (Also many saints who had died were seen alive in Jerusalem on their way to heaven) That very day a series of Jesus appearances began to happen which stretched over the next 40 days with indisputable evidence that Jesus Christ had risen indeed from the dead.

Its FRIDAY - The Angels Are Silent

Friday has arrived. Jesus is arrested; betrayed by the kiss of a friend. Peter, with a quick draw of the sword cuts of the right ear of Malchus the security guard. Mark loses his clothes in the scuffle and runs away naked. The rest of the disciples fled leaving Jesus alone. He is bound and taken to the home of the former High Priest Annas. The final countdown of eight long hours to the cross has begun. Jesus said He could call on 12 legions (72,000) of angels who were at His disposal. These angels were with Him in eternity past. They stood at the attention of the Father and could be sent immediately. But the angels were never called. WHY? Pastor Mel

Its THURSDAY - A Night To Remember

Thursday, was a time of moving on. Jesus ushers in the new kingdom/way of living. Jesus brings us to a place that we were never able to get to before. It is more than forgiveness of our sins its walking away from our sins and into a new and different life. "I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly."

Jesus teaches us. The new Kingdom is a life lived rather than a past celebrated.

Jesus shows us. Even Jesus could not be self sufficient and neither should we.

Jesus lives it. Jesus proves by His life and death what He was teaching.

Its WEDNESDAY - How Do You Prepare to Die?

If you received word that you had one more day to live how would you like to spend that day? With whom would you choose to spend it? How would you prepare yourself to face the kind of cruel death Jesus faced? He knew the end from the beginning, so he took Wednesday and prepared Himself to die. He chose four close friends and spent a quiet day with them. We will hear in today's message why these four friends were so important to Jesus on this final Wednesday. Pastor Mel

Its TUESDAY-Jesus on the Hot Seat

Uncluttered FAITH is our goal as we begin this five week series. We will walk with Jesus through the last week of His life on earth as we know it to explore some of the significant teachings and events in all of scripture. This morning I invite you to witness as Jesus cuts through the junk and gets to the heart of FAITH issues. Perhaps this process can help us consider what the excess baggage is that seems to clutter our spiritual journey. What are the issues that cause us to stumble? Jesus' invitation is to set us free; to experience the fullness of Christ and a faith free clutter.

How Deep Will You Go?

How to deal with situations when we need to cry out to God.
Are situations and problems de-railing my true purpose?
What is the worst thing that can happen?
Where is Jesus working and what is he saying?
What are God's kingdom priorities in the situation?
How can the life of Jesus and His presence be revealed in this situation?
We must move beyond surface troubles and situations and dig deeper to a pursuit of God.

Am I Your Worst Nightmare?

Over the past 5 weeks we have been looking at the various aspects of our call and responsibility to reach out and care about other people in a more intentional way. The response from many of you has been very positive. We have become aware that this is not just a series, rather a life style. We have all become more aware of others that God sets in our way and have become more sensitive in obeying Gods promptings in this area. We have been learning to notice them, care about them, and love them. today as we close this teaching series we ask the question: As you reach out to others, who do they meet?

Having a Missional Heart

This series has been a necessary wake-up call for all of us. We have come to see the immeasurable value of taking these walks across rooms ...just to see what God might do. How do we maintain the momentum we've gained in the past four weeks?
How does our church keep this evangelistic fire burning in the coming days, weeks, months, years ...so that instead of this being a one time shot in the arm we experience a significant life change? What I hope to do this morning is to plant a seed in your soul that will take root and grow so that you will experience a deep transformation of heart and mind. This calls for a new heart, a missional heart.

This morning you will hear the fourth message in the "Walk Across the Room" series. We were reminded in the first message of the single greatest gift we can offer people by introducing them to the creator and lover of their souls, God himself. We also heard about "living in 3D" -developing friendships, discovering stories and discerning appropriate next steps. This past Sunday we were reminded of the power of story with each of you invited to write your story and send it to mystory@maplecitychapel.com In today's message you will be asked to partner with God in the most magnificent mission imaginable: finding what is lost, restoring what is broken, and reclaiming what is His.

The Third Dimension

In this series, "Just Walk Across the Room," we are learning to do a better job of concentrating our attention toward others. We believe that God is asking us to pay more attention to the life and heart of other people, as well as being more intentional in our listening and response to the Holy Spirit. Everyone needs someone to be interested in them in the same way that God is. Everyone has value and we are called to treat them as valuable. Pastor Gary Miller

The Single Greatest Gift

I'm glad you are here today, because this is the first week in our "Walk Across the Room" series. Thanks to all of you who are taking the time to read the book. This six week experience is going to radically change the way you and I view evangelism. If you are a Christ-follower, I know that what you want most is to touch the lives of people you know, people you love, those who are living their lives far from God. How do we begin? You got it: with a "Walk Across the Room". Pastor Mel Shetler

Christ Followers Need A Heart Test

Today's message focuses on the importance of obedience to the biblical instruction of tithing and generous giving. As we begin this New Year, it is important to note your generosity and how incredibly blessed we are because of it. The MCCh budget is developed by the Elders, Pastors, Stewardship Team and Team Leaders by carefully discerning God's vision and priorities for this year and has been approved at $16,799 weekly. Meeting this financial responsibility will be a joy mixed with great opportunity as we listen to the heart of God.

What is Missing in My Goals for 2007

Most of us have goals in life we are pursuing. These goals may have started to shape us while we were very young. No doubt someone heard us say, "When I grow up I am going to be a..." For some of us our goals may be consuming us and we have little time for anything else. For others, something went wrong with our goals and they got scrapped along the way. Either way, something is missing. Today I want to help you find that one goal for 2007 that may be missing.
Five Stones of Rememberance

Throughout redemptive history certain religious groups have gathered to say prayers, preach sermons, recite creeds, sing hymns and then as the gathering ended would exclaim, "That was church." At the same time heaven also makes an assessment about those same church services by asking, "This is church"? As we recount our story, on this final Sunday of 2006, can we come into agreement with heaven so we both can say, "This is church"! ~ Pastor Mel

Five Stories of 2006
1. Babies, new Christ followers, additional staff, weddings...this is how the Lord added to the church family.
2. $100,000 Sunday
3. The Sunday we prayed for the healing of physical and emotional wounds and people were healed.
4. The Thrive and Maximum Impact simulcasts along with other outreach ministries.
5. A big increase in participation of Bible studies.

The Birth That Changed Our World

The final sermon in our "Experience Nativity; Change Your World" series. Today we celebrate the birth of God's Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to change the way we think, what we say, what our attitude is, but most importantly to save us from our sins.

The Miracle That Changed Our World

Mary's chaste character is highlighted by the description of her as a virgin. In this account by Luke, he clearly attributes Jesus' conception to the Holy Spirit. The virgin birth of Jesus is unique and superior from the birth of any other person that has ever lived, truly a miracle of God. I hope that as you leave the service today you will be encouraged to believe God for the impossible in your life. ~ Pastor Mel

The Ministry That Changed Our World

This is the third Sunday in our current series "Experience Nativity", and today we consider again how the coming of Jesus changed our world. I meet many children and some adults that believe the manger scene in Bethlehem, where baby Jesus was born, is the very first appearance He made in this world. In the Gospel of John, the WORD, (JESUS) is uncreated. There never has been a time when He was not. He is the One who inhabits eternity. In the message this morning we will see where the story of Jesus really begins and how His ministry changed our world. ~ Pastor Mel

The Testimonies That Changed Our World

The Old Testament contains over three hundred references to the Messiah, (Jesus the Christ) who was coming in the future. This morning I am choosing only two that have directly to do with experiencing the nativity. These two testimonials which are part of the three hundred will give you strong proof that help you know the Bible is inspired by God.

The Message That Changed Our World

The message that changed the world was introduced by John the Baptist. He burst upon the scene announcing a new kingdom with a flaming voice preaching REPENTANCE. John was a unique and bold prophet calling on everyone to repent regardless of class or religious status. The purpose of his message was to soften people's hearts and prepare them for the coming of Jesus.

Who Will Return and Give Thanks?

What causes Christ followers to slip into a rut of ungratefulness? Why do the warnings in the Bible regarding people falling away from God, include the sin of being unthankful? In today's message we will see the reality of our descent down the slippery slope of being unthankful and hear Jesus plea for us to return and become grateful Christ followers.

What Led You to this Church?

How do you choose the right church for your family? What do you look for in a church? What is important to you? Are there any non-negotiable beliefs that need to be settled before you make your decision? Today's message is an exposition of Matthew 16:13-20. It is the very first time that Jesus talks about the church. Let's find out what the non-negotiable principles are for His Church.

Staying the Course

We must remain constant and unchanging in our pursuit of changing.

Characteristics of People who stay the course:
1. They are engaged in a ongoing pursuit of God
2. They understand ownership.
3. They realize that current experience and opinion may have little apparent relevance to what is ultimately taking place
4. Their decisions are not based on the probability of success.

Characteristics of people who have plateaued:
1. They decide when they are close enough
2. God isn't doing much more in their lives.
3. Its someone else’s fault
4. They change their goals rather than change their ways.

Are you staying the course or have you plateaued?
