1 in 1000 Ministries Sermons

1 in 1000 Ministries is a ministry of Rev. Kevin Hoffman and his family and it exists to equip the Church to be a witness to a lost world. Much like Job and his friends, the world is at odds with itself when it comes to understanding who God is and what He does. We need a clear headed and faithful understanding of the Word of God. In this day of moral and cultural relativism that can be hard to find. Our mission is to reach the Church with good teaching and equip the saints to be witnesses for Christ, with faith and reason, to faithfully represent God and His Word to the world around us!

If this sounds like something that you or your church can use, please contact me to discuss scheduling a preaching or teaching engagement at your Church or Bible Study or join us at our monthly GOT DOCTRINE? study.

Holy, Blameless and Above Reproach

What changed as a result of Jesus' death on the cross and His resurrection? As we trust in Him, does God simply choose now to overlook our sin? The Cross is not just a removal of guilt, but a restoring to original righteousness. There is a positive aspect to the work of Christ as well as a negative aspect. He does not just remove guilt, but restores righteousness. He presents us to God as "Holy, Blameless and Above Reproach. Can you imagine standing before God, not just with nothing negative in yourself, but with the real, positive aspect of Jesus Christ, holiness being credited to your account? That is what the Gospel does for those who trust in it.

Reconciled!

Over the past two messages we have seen that Jesus Christ is God, the Creator of all and the ultimate Authority. We have also seen that man has rebelled and thrown off the rule of his Creator, having become alienated and an enemy to Him. If these two things are true, why are we still here? If we are the rebels that Colossians 1:21 says we are and He is the Great Sovereign of Colossians 1:15-19 Whom we have offended, it seems that He should just put down the rebellion once and for all. Yet He does not, He has chosen to reconcile the rebel to Himself at His own expense. What does it take to bring the rebel back into fellowship with God?

Worldview Adjustment

Why is there evil in the world? Is it true that God is obligated to keep every person from evil? Some say that the presence of evil in the world is proof that either God is not powerful enough to stop evil or does not care enough to do so and thus, He is not really God. Where do we begin in this discussion? John Calvin began his most important work, The Institutes of the Christian Religion with these words, "Our wisdom, in so far as it ought to be deemed true and solid Wisdom, consists almost entirely of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves." This is where most of us miss it in our assessment of the world. We need to begin with right information before we make assessments and assertions concerning it. Let's look at what the Bible says about God and ourselves and then we can determine how it all fits together.

By Him, Through Him, For Him

Who’s in charge around here? Sometimes it seems like the bad guys are winning. But, as the old hymn reminds us, “This is my Father’s world, O let me never forget, that tho’ the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.” Our discouragement is often from a lack of understanding and trusting in God’s control. The Colossians struggled with this too. They had been a part of a culture that was very superstitious and who thought that angels influenced the events of the world. Fear ruled their lives because they did not understand that Christ is over everything.

Christ at the Center

What is the substance of the Christian life? Is it about what I can do for God or about my response to what He has done for me? As Paul wrote to the Believers in Colosse he set things in the proper order because there were among them, people who applied their cultural and religious bias to the faith, thus gutting it of its power and meaning. We live in the same kind of culture. We are influenced in the same way. This overview of the Book of Colossians helps us see what the Apostle says is the proper approach to serving God.

Faith, Love and Hope

When the Apostle Paul addressed the Church at Colosse, he was able to assert with conviction that the people there were true Disciples of Jesus Christ. Not on a bare profession, but because Epaphras had told him of the fruit that their faith had produced. A love for the brethren and a steadfast hope in the final consummation of all that had been promised in the Gospel. Do these things characterize your faith as a Disciple of Jesus?

Knowledge of God's Will

Paul began the letter with a sample of what he had been praying for the Believers at Colosse. This prayer is really quite powerful as we consider its implications. He prayed that they would be "filled with the knowledge of God's will." We often are happy with a knowledge of God's will in what we consider "important" things, but what about the everyday walking out of our Christian lives? Does our daily walk and things we do from moment to moment consider all that God would have us to do?

Out of Darkness

As we considered what living in God's will is all about last time, we touched on the idea that it is lived out of what He has done for us rather than in a way so as to try and gain His favor. Are you living to try and please God out of a sense of duty? Do you think you can or that you need to earn or keep God's favor by your performance? If so, you have the Christian Faith inside out!

Your Throne is Forever

The final Sunday of the Advent celebration culminates in our looking forward to the final and complete redemption of all things. Christ is the King. He is returning. He will once and for all subdue all of His enemies and take His purchased Possession to Himself, His Bride will be at His right hand forever. Having covered the basic aspects of the plan of redemption For the Problem of Sin, to the Plan of Salvation, the the Person of Jesus Christ and now the Promise of His Return to take His bride, we have the big picture of what the Little Child came into the world to accomplish.

I Have Come To Do Your Will!

Having taken the time to look at the PROBLEM, our sin, in Psalm 5 on the first Sunday of Advent and then at the PLAN, the Gospel, in Psalm 8 on the second Sunday, This week we see the PERSON who fulfilled that PLAN and solved the PROBLEM in our study of Psalm 40.

Psalms 40:6-9 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require. 7 Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart." 9 I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know.
