What will you sacrifice for the cause?

Many Christians across the world sacrifice, money, stature, safety, and even their lives for the call of Christ.

Here in America, we are unlikely to experience the type and scope of persecution our friends endure. We will not be called upon to give such a great sacrifice, but What will you sacrifice for the cause?

Hear, Do!

There is a lot of superficial belief in the church these days. People sit in the church every Sunday, or at least when it is convenient for them, and "say" they believe, but their life doesn't show that belief in what they do. James tells us that who we are and what we believe shows in what we do.

The Cost of Discipleship

Jesus always seemed a bit concerned when crowds were following Him. I think, primarily because He knew they all were not getting it. He wanted them too, and He wanted those who didn’t to move on.
Jesus doesn’t get excited about half-committed people.

How Quickly We Forget

The Apostle Paul was speaking of his focus when he said,
Philippians 3:12-14 (NIV)

12b…I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13b… Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

In our text, Israel loses focus, quickly forgets what God has done, and takes their eyes off the prize, that is the relationship He has established

The Ten Teachings - Laws for our Good

That is the message of the Ten Commandments. God brought a despised group of people out of bondage. They would not experience true liberty however, by merely trading one form of bondage for another. Deliverance from Egypt’s tyranny could easily be replaced by servitude to self and personal passions.
The purpose of God’s law is deliverance, not domination. The Ten Commandments are God’s “statutes of liberty.”

The Ten Teachings - Laws to Live By

No topic has been more misunderstood among Christians than the Law of Moses and its application to the NT believer today. You may have questions. Why did God give the law?
If so important, why did he give it thousands of years after He created mankind?
To understand the Law, we must remember that God had already made an everlasting covenant with the Jews through their father Abraham (Gen. 15). He promised them His blessing and gave them the ownership of the land of Canaan. The Mosaic Law was “added” to the covenant.

The Ten Teachings - Nine - Heroic Honesty

Essentially, this came from when a person was in court. So, God was saying speak the truth when you’re on the witness stand. Don’t slander someone else or make something up just to bring them down.

Most likely not all of us will be on the witness stand too often, tempted to slander someone. But, our lives are always fully open before the Lord. And this commandment does speak to the importance of heroic honesty.

The 9th commandment says, Don’t give false testimony. And Jesus turned it around for the positive and said, Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’, and your ‘No’, ‘No’ (Mt. 5:37).

The Ten Teachings - Seven - Keep Sex Sacred

Sex in America! Much different than our grandparents knew it. It’s everywhere. You’ve heard the term, “Sex Sells.” Well it must be true. Billboards, TV shows, Movies, commercials…
Last spring it was in the WOODSTOCK Library, Literally. Two high school aged kids were caught between the book-shelves.
Today we are not going to talk about the whole topic of sex, but we are going to narrow it down to what the seventh commandment says ---- Exodus 20:14

"Thou shall not commit adultery."
Nevertheless, this sin has been committed throughout history. Today, though, adultery seems more rampant than ever. While tabloid stories report the affairs of politicians, millionaires, and movie stars, films like "The English Patient," "The Prince of Tides," or "The Bridges of Madison Country" feature and even promote adultery.
