Handling the Red Stuff: Retaliation

Once again, we look at the counter-cultural way that Jesus suggests we deal with retaliation - turning the other cheek. In this fun and interactive approach children and adults alike can see some practical demonstrations of how we can live this out everyday.

Handling the Red Stuff: Oaths

Continuing on the theme of looking at Jesus's words in Matthew, Jon tackles the teaching of Jesus on oaths. How important it is for us to be truthful and trustworthy, so that people believe what we say when we say it and our actions should reinforce that.

Handling the Red Stuff: Divorce

How relevant is the Bible.....In the world today we as Christians walk between extremes. On the one hand we have God's ideal set out by Jesus here and in Matthew 19 v3-12, and at the other extreme we have the disposable marriages modelled by the celebrities of today. God looks at Marriage as a covenant, not a contract and walking in this covenant is only possible with God's strength. God recognises that we fail, that not all walk with Him but His and our hearts seek repentance and reconciliation first, before the pain of divorce.

Handling the Red Stuff: Lust

Looking at the passage in Matthew where Jesus spoke about sexual desire which seemed as much a problem as it is now, James broadens the application to look at how we handle lust for material possessions and other desires that may become more important to us than our walk with God.

Are you stuck at the gate?

Stephen from Crossroads Community Church, Zimbabwe, applies the situation of the lame beggar at the Beautiful Gate outside the temple in Jerusalem to ourselves. We see how the weakness of one area of the body affects the whole body, and likewise we can be stuck outside the abundant life that God has promised us because of one small area of weakness. Peter asked the man to do something impossible - stand up! But in the doing of the impossible the lame beggar's faith was rewarded and he was healed.

Handling the Red Stuff: Anger

As with many of the challenges from the "red stuff", the words Jesus spoke, He asks us to look at our heart attitude, not just our actions. This time although the passage starts talking about murder, we see that a heart that is hardened with violent anger, spilling out in hurtful words can do lasting, painful damage.
