  <title>How A Leader Motivates Others and Organizes A Project</title>
  <description>HOW A LEADER MOTIVATES OTHERS AND ORGANIZES A PROJECT
Nehemiah 2:10 20 and Nehemiah 3:1 32

First, leaders prays. Then, leaders plan. Next, leaders make a presentation to get people to cooperate. Success is never a one man show. Nehemiah knew, he couldn’t rebuild the wall without the help of other people. When he goes to Jerusalem, the people are defeated and apathetic. They are living among ruins. Twice before in the last 90 years somebody had tried to rebuild the wall. They failed…twice. They have no confidence. For 90 years they&#039;ve been saying it can&#039;t be done. Negativity reigns. Nehemiah arrives on the scene and within a matter of days he has rallied the support of the entire city. He pulls them together, mobilizes them, and rebuilds the wall in 52 days. How did Nehemiah pull it off when other people had failed? He understood how to motivate people.

Today, let us discover how leaders motivate others and organizes a project.

  <title>How A Leader Plans</title>
  <description>HOW A LEADER PLANS:  Nehemiah 2:1 9

Last week we established the first thing a leader does: he prays. The next step a leader takes is: he plans. Pray, then plan. Nehemiah is a master planner.

Today, we will discover 6 stages of Nehemiah’s planning. But first, let me share 3 reasons why we ought to plan.

  <title>A Leader&#039;s Prayer Life</title>
  <description>The Leader’s Prayer Life
Nehemiah 1:4-11

In past presidential campaigns, we have heard that a person’s private life in no way affects their ability to govern the nation. Nothing could be further from the truth. Recently, we have heard candidates try to cash in on their personal life. Why? Because people know it matters. The truth is: the effectiveness of public leadership is largely determined by private life.
Today, we are going to look into Nehemiah’s heart. Nehemiah was a man of prayer, nine different times in this book he prays. In Nehemiah 1 we have one of the great prayers of the Bible. We learn a lot about people by listening to their prayers.

Today we will answer three questions about prayer, when to pray, why pray, how to pray.

  <title>The Making Of A Leader</title>
  <description>The Making of a Leader
Nehemiah 1:1-4

Proverbs 28:2: “When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.”

-Family.		-Business.	-Church.

The Living Bible says, &quot;With honest, sensible leaders there is stability.&quot;

-Home.	-Community     -Nation.	-World.

The book of Nehemiah is the greatest leadership book ever written. By Nehemiah’s example, we see principles of leadership that are still true today. You probably have seen these six principles at work in your own experience.

  <title>State of the Church Address</title>
  <description>State of the Church Address 2012

INTRODUCTION: To God be the glory in all things. Amen?

1 Corinthians 1:10 says, “I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

Today is a different kind of Sunday. Today is the “State of the Church Address.”

What is the “State of the Church Address?”
The first Sunday of January, of each year, we will review what God has done in the past year and share insights into some of what we expect God to do in the New Year. We will provide a quick overview of the pivotal events in the life of the church (in the past) as well as a general roadmap of activities and developments we expect to occur in the near future.

  <title>Wise Men Still Seek Him!</title>
  <description>“Wise Men Still Seek Him” (3 of 4)
Matthew 2:1-12

INTRODUCTION:

The message of Christmas is that God intrudes upon the weak and the vulnerable. God does not come to that part of us that swaggers through life, confident in our self sufficiency. God leaves His treasure in the broken fragmented places of our life. God comes to us in those rare moments when we are able to transcend our own selfishness long enough to really care about another human being.

On the wall of the museum of a concentration camp is a large and moving photograph of a mother and her little girl standing in the line of a gas chamber.  The child, who is walking in front of her mother, does not know where she is going.  The mother, who walks behind, does know, but is helpless to stop the tragedy.  In her helplessness she performs the only act of love left to her.  She places her hands over the child&#039;s eyes so she will at least not see the horror to come.  When people come into the museum, they do not whisk by this photo hurriedly.  They pause.  They almost feel the pain.  And deep inside they all may be saying: &quot;O God, don&#039;t let that be all that there is.&quot;

God hears those prayers and it is in just such situations of hopelessness and helplessness that His Almighty power is born. It is in places like this where God leaves His treasure. Jesus Christ has been born and is born anew this season. Wise men still seek Him.

Let’s read Matthew 2:1-12.

 1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, &quot;Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.&quot; 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people&#039;s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. 5 &quot;In Bethlehem in Judea,&quot; they replied, &quot;for this is what the prophet has written: 6 &quot;&#039;But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.&#039; &quot; 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, &quot;Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.&quot; 9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.”

Today, we will look at three facts and three life principles from the wisemen’s experience.

  <title>We are the Reason for the Season!</title>
  <description>We are the Reason for the Season (2 of 4)

Introduction:

We have all heard the phrase: &quot;Jesus is the reason for the season.&quot; This a pretty simple way of conveying to others the meaning of Christmas.

In a world that&#039;s filled with people who worry about themselves foremost, it is good that we would have such a phrase which helps focus our eyes on someone other than ourselves.
During the season of Christmas, we place our eyes in the manger at Bethlehem, to see the Savior of the world.
In a world that shops through the hustle and bustle of the mall looking for gifts that would meet our expectations and the standards of our family members and friends, it is good to see the True Gift, which money cannot buy, Jesus Christ.

However, this phrase... &quot;Jesus is the reason for the season&quot; is &quot;earthly.&quot; Though powerful and good, it is from an earthly perspective. It is man&#039;s perspective of Christmas time. However, God&#039;s view of Christmas time, &quot;the season&quot;, is different than ours because His view is heavenly.

Heaven&#039;s view of the &quot;season&quot; is not that &quot;Jesus&quot; makes the season.  Heaven&#039;s view would trumpet, &quot;We are the reason for the season.&quot;

If you were to ask Jesus the reason for the season, would He say: &quot;It&#039;s because of me?&quot;  I don&#039;t think so.  He would tell you... &quot;My child, you are reason for the season.&quot;  &quot;You are the reason I came to Bethlehem.  You are the reason I took on flesh.  You are the reason I bled and died, giving my life on the cross.&quot;

Earth&#039;s perspective takes our eyes off ourselves, which is a good thing, and focuses our attention on Jesus...and rightly so. Yet, heaven&#039;s perspective continues to show the great love that God has for us.

In heaven&#039;s view, we are the reason for the season. It is this vantage point that we will explore today.

  <title>Jesus, Savior</title>
  <description>Jesus….Savior (1 of 4)
Matthew 1:21

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

INTRODUCTION:

If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.

Today we will answer four fundamental questions based on Matthew 1:21.

  <title>Live the Life of Faith</title>
  <description>
Live The Life of Faith (6 of 6)

Introduction:

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, &quot;Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.&quot; And he replied, &quot;Step out into the darkness, put your hand into the hand of God, and that will be to you better than a light and safer than a known way.&quot; (Philip Hasbro)

The Bible tells us the definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1:  &quot;Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.&quot;

This helps us understand a little better 2 Corinthians 5:7: &quot;We live by faith, not by sight.&quot;

The Bible refers to...
No faith... A lack of faith... Little faith... Weak faith...
Sincere faith... Great faith... Full of faith...

The real question is: what amount of faith do you have?

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God.
Isaiah 7:9 tells us that without faith you will not be able to stand.

Today, we will discover what the Bible says about living the life of faith.

  <title>Live the Life of Encouragement</title>
  <description>Live The Life of Encouragement (5 of 6)

Introduction:

Encouragement enlarges people. People who enlarge others help them want to grow. One way of doing this is to tap into their passions. Everyone, even the quietest person, has a passion for something.

It has been said that &quot;Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to do, when all they need is one reason why they can.&quot;

When we look to enlarge others by looking for their passions, we must look beyond the surface of their daily needs. Our souls are not hungry for fame, comfort, wealth, or power. These rewards create almost as many problems as they solve. Our souls are hungry for meaning, for purpose, for living lives that matter, for making the world a better place because we have passed through it.

President Woodrow Wilson said, &quot;We grow by dreams.  All big individuals are dreamers.  They see things in the soft haze of a spring day, or in the red fire on a long winter&#039;s evening.  Some of us let those great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nourish them through bad days until they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.&quot;

Today, we continue our Live The Life Series and look to God&#039;s Word for instruction on living the life of encouragement.
