The Horrors and Comforts of God's Wrath (Jeremiah 25.13-38)

God gives two haunting pictures of His just wrath, but the rest of the story shows how Jesus makes the cup of God's wrath a great comfort to all who call upon Him.

The Difference Between Good and Bad Figs

God gives His people some very surprising news: that the exiles in Babylon are blessed and those remaining in Jerusalem and Judah are accursed and why that is the case.

What Jesus' Death on the Cross Means for Us (1Peter 2:18-25)

As we consider Jesus' death, we recognize that Christians get this propositionally, but practically Jesus' death makes little difference in our lives, in the day-to-day, moment-by-moment struggles of our lives. From 1Peter 2:18-25, we consider how Jesus' death gives us deeply needed help for living day to day.

What God Thinks of Lying Preachers (Jeremiah 23.9-40)

In Jeremiah, God is coming to call back His bride Judah who has forsaken Him. But there are some obstacles in the way of His mission. Sadly, in Jeremiah 23, we see that the prophets (like modern-day preachers) had some critical flaws that insulated God's people from hearing His Word and resting in Him and His Good News (that starts with their neediness). The parallels to today are scary and serve as a warning to us.

God Coming to Rescue His People through the Good Shepherd (Jeremiah 23:1-8)

In Jeremiah 21-22 God exposes the Kings of Judah for failing to heed His Word in a way that has deeply hurt His people, serving themselves at the cost of the honor of God and the good of His people. In ch 24-25 God exposes the prophets for twisting His Word in a way that has deeply hurt His people, serving them, serving themselves at the cost of the honor of God and the good of His people. In ch 23, is God going to sit around apathetically while these shepherds of His people hurt His people and dishonor His name. Here God tells of His plan to rescue His people.

God and Politics: The Clash of Kingdoms (Jeremiah 21-22)

Politicians love to co-opt God for their purposes. We see this today, but this is not new. Around 600 BC we see the king of Judah trying to do this in Jeremiah's day. What does God think of this? He makes it clear in Jeremiah 21-22.

Responding to God's Sovereignty (Jeremiah 18.1-17)

The sovereignty of God is one of the most controversial and misunderstood teachings in the Bible. In Jeremiah 18 God gives us an object lesson to help us grasp the reality of His sovereignty and how we are to respond to His sovereignty. In the end, grasping His sovereignty and responding to it rightly will lead us to thrive and will become a bedrock of comfort.

The Life-Giving Urgency of the Sabbath (Jeremiah 17:19-27)

In Jeremiah, God is coming to pursue us as His people. In this passage, God calls us to enjoy Him by celebrating the Sabbath. So often the Sabbath has seemed like a legalistic, oppressive task, but God calls us back to celebrating the Sabbath so that we might be showered with what is truly life.

Facing the Realities of God's Judgment (Jeremiah 16)

Jeremiah is a book written by God to chase after a people who are subtly drifting from God . In Jeremiah 16 He lays before His people the effects of seeking life apart from Him, but offers an odd hope.
