What Is God Listening For? (J Hayden 1/29/12)

They said "Teach us to pray." Jesus answered (1) confess your relationship to God, (2) confess your true needs, (3) don't be bashful, (4) be specific, and (5) first ask for--be filled with--the Holy Spirit.

Why Keep Praying? (J Hayden 1/22/12)

There's not much mystery about the meaning and purpose of this parable: "This parable has it's key hanging at the front door" (M. Henry): “…Men always ought to pray.” Today we'll see at least three reasons for us to keep on praying.

Christ Preeminent (J Hayden 1/15/12)

Christ controls everything everywhere! He is indeed filling this little church to overflowing. When you pray, “Thy will be done,” realize that it is being done and thank Him for the privilege of consciously being part of it right where you are!

Worldly Friendship (J Hayden 1/8/12)

A radically committed disciple of Christ is either a curse or a blessing to those around him--depending upon their response to his or her witness. “We are the aroma of death to death, and…the aroma of life to life.” For us to aspire to the world’s approval is to forsake our "saltiness"! Thus, “…Friendship with the world is enmity with God.”

Why Jesus Came (J Hayden 1/1/12)

"Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." (Luke 12:51-53)

The Consolation of Israel (G Mitchell 12/25/11)

Not everyone recognized Christ when he came--some are still waiting--but some did. The "good tidings of great joy for all people" proclaimed by the angels was certainly recognized by the shepherds. And Simeon, who was looking for the Consolation of Israel, found the hope he had longed for.

Ten Shekels and a Shirt (Paris Reidhead)

So it had gotten down to the place where salvation was nothing more than an assent to a scheme or a formula, and the end of this was that salvation was the happiness of man because humanism has penetrated. If you were to analyze fundamentalism in contrast to liberalism of a hundred years ago as it developed, for I am not pinpointing it in time, it would be like this: The liberal says the end of religion is to make man happy while he's alive, and the fundamentalist says the end of religion is to make man happy when he dies. But again! The end of all of the religion it was proclaimed was the happiness of man.
